Building a Scalable Volunteer Model: Good Strategies Partners with Kids On Point

Kids On Point, a Charleston-based nonprofit that empowers nearly 500 students annually through academic support, enrichment activities, and life skills development, knows that volunteers are essential to their success.  Kids On Point recognizes that engaging volunteers effectively isn’t just important—it’s mission critical.

That’s why this summer, every member of the Kids On Point staff participated in the Service Enterprise Diagnostic facilitated by Good Strategies. This comprehensive assessment explored 12 key characteristics of effective volunteer engagement and provided a clear picture of the organization’s current strengths and areas for improvement.

With statewide expansion on the radar,  the goal was clear: ensure that volunteers are being leveraged in the most strategic, efficient, and impactful way possible. As the KOP team put it, “We can’t achieve our mission without engaging volunteers.”

Following the diagnostic, Good Strategies spent two hours with the full team diving into results and unpacking actionable recommendations. Kids On Point plans to begin implementing these improvements this fall.

Their Executive Director shared:

“Kids On Point has greatly benefited from our partnership with Good Strategies in strengthening and enhancing our volunteer program. With over 80 college-aged volunteers supporting nearly 500 students annually, we knew we needed a more structured, strategic approach to ensure consistency, alignment, and long-term impact.”

“This partnership has helped lay the groundwork for a scalable volunteer model that will support Kids On Point as we grow across the state. We’re incredibly grateful to Good Strategies for their insight, dedication, and partnership. Their support will make a lasting difference in our organization.”

We’re honored to support Kids On Point as they embark on this path to engage volunteers more strategically, intentionally and deliberately to support their work in the years to come.
